Day 24 NaPoWriMo – Spending in the USA

Spending in the USA

Rather than putting our country in debt,
even more than it has already dug itself,
spending taxes on foreign lands,
housing other countries, feeding them,
medicating them, repairing cities;
why not turn all those funds back
to projects our country desperately needs?

We have jobless, homeless, hungry here.
We have empty factories, vacant malls,
sick who need medical care,
veterans who live in cardboard boxes,
polluted water, falling bridges,
a collapsing economy that can’t continue
spending outside our country, building debt.

When will it end?
When will the light shine?
When will We The People take a stand?
For what once was a country with presence and pride?

  1. Thanks for letting me camp out in your blog for a little while today. I had a great time and tried to leave my campsite as good as when I arrived. I’ll be back!

Many persons wiser than us(?), who say we should “give till it hurts”, are more than likely personally solvent. So, in their case, that’s perfectly fine.
However, when you’re managing (?) a juggernaut that is trillions of dollars ‘in the red’, a ‘rollback’ of international charity would be prudent. The U.S. government needs to hand most overseas aid back to individuals and NGO’s – who are not burdened with debt.
    Truly an evocative poem!…

      Thanks for the comment.
I think the government of this country is not going to do foregin aid cutbacks because it’s more politically correct to rob your own citizens than to deprive someone else.

“For what once was a country with presence and pride?” A country of people with walmart inside. 🙂

Another incredible Poem by the Famous Writer, Vickie! ❤

You are so awesome, don't ever forget that!

  5. I always like a politically loaded poem, or any form of art with a social yearning or message. I really liked reading this piece.
It questions the current situation in the States, but many people in different countries in the west are asking the same questions.
    Great read!

      Thanks Miki,
I write what I feel, and on any given day that can vary hugely, but there are a few other poems here that have a political bent. Some are subtle (I like doing those), and some are straight shooters with a sharp point (I like doing those). Or maybe it’s just that I like spouting off. In any case, I’m glad you stopped in, enjoyed your time here, and left a comment.
